Ofcom’s Media Literacy website has a name – Media Literacy matters. Network members encouraged to contribute. Action: KR to update at next meeting – possibly to arrange a presentation by London colleague.

Update on Campaigns & Promotions which have been promoting media literacy to education & training sector: Adult Learners Week (May) is the current focus
Terms of Reference: Discussion around whether or not we need an agreed definition of media literacy? General feeling that it would not be best use of time to spend on this but agreed that when the website is set up, we will include an explanation of the different definitions of media literacy. Action: KR to circulate drafter TOR for network to agree upon.
Latest Info/Exchange
Not enough representation from North Wales on the network. Action: CF to ask Rachel Jones (NIACE Dysgu Cymru regional officer for North Wales) to highlight work of network in North Wales
Need a logo and website ASAP. Action: James Cook to design pilot website and contact associate about designing logo. Action: KR & CF to make final decision on logo to speed up process
Events and activities:
Summer Event planned- S4C agreed to host/RTS to sponsor – possibly at the Eisteddfod. Action: KR to circulate details nearer to the date.
Small event planning group set up (Cerys Furlong, Karen Roberts, Tim Hartley & James Cook). Action: Karen Lewis to check with colleagues in the BBC to see what they could contribute
General discussion – issues raised for a future focus:
- Media Literacy & basic skills
- Issues of e-engagement/ e-government
- Media literacy in relation to the democratic process (e.g. using media to engage with the Assembly’s scrutiny processes)
