Future meetings: Suggested to invite Wayne Full (Skillset) to speak to a future meeting to discuss the role of SSCs. Action: CF

Update from Cerys on Niace priorities for the coming months.

New research soon to be published. Wales specific research to be commissioned.
Media Literacy Map website: Stalled due to end of secondment from DCMS. Role has been taken over by Alexandra McNair. Some technical problems still experienced. Site to be launched in November-December. Action: KR to invite Alex to next meeting to give presentation of site
Latest issues: Information exchange/ updates from network members
Wise Kids: Joined with Urdd, BT, Childline and other partners to establish ‘Savvy and Safe’- which gives adults and young people the tools to use the internet safely.
Canllaw Online: Digital storytelling project going well. Worked with almost 250 young people now. Nearly 200 different stories. Credu project also going well with a finish date of 31st October 07.
ITV Wales: Currently looking for local stories to be sent in for the ITV Local site.
S4C: Creating a Children’s Channel which could showcase content. Produced a booklet called Pwyso’r Bwton. Information about use of voice recognition technology. Events held in the Assembly, in conjunction with RNIB to highlight this work.
Merthyr Media Project: A Merthyr version of ‘YouTube’ has been created. Merthyrstories.org.uk (funded by Communities@One) Have been overwhelmed by the responses. Convergence Funding: Uni of Glam are preparing a bid. The network could offer support. Action: MO to present at future meeting
Pembrokeshire LEA: www.cc4g.org.uk (computer club for girls) It gives young people the understanding of media literacy skills as well as general ICT skills.
Currently training older pupils to mentor younger pupils. This is also the first e learning club to be available in Welsh (Preseli). WAG have funded £300k
January 14th E-Democracy event: Presiding office want this to feed into developing an strategy for e government. Discussion around aims and objectives of event, and who the target audience is. Action: KR to arrange sub-group to organise event and circulate ideas agenda/invitation nearer the time.
Other events and areas of joint working:
Strapline needed to go with logos. A number of suggestions were made. Action: KR & CF to make final decision once circulated to network members.
Website: James will continue to develop ideas for the website and will come to next meeting.
Date for Diary: Channel 4 Digital Media Literacy summit on 8th November.
Logo accepted by group. Action: KR to order pop-ups.
Dates for future meetings
Decided to set dates for next year’s meetings at the January meeting. Action: all members to bring diaries to Jan meeting
